Design Office

This is the Merlin MRP Factory Design office, where you look after everything connected with your assemblies.

Create and maintain your Assembly Definitions, Bills of Materials (BoMs), and Costings.  Do not be alarmed by the paucity of command buttons here - the power is in the work areas!  Click the buttons in the picture, or the links below, to visit the various departments:

Assembly Definitions and BoMs are maintained in Assembly Library.  Note the Direct Access button to Assembly Library in the left-hand panel.  Otherwise you need to click the Design tab to access this area.

An Assembly Definition is like a header record for the BoM, and contains a simple product description.  Here is stored the Next Serial Number for this assembly, if a running sequence is used (which the system automatically maintains).  The AD and its Kit List (BoM) must exist in the Design Office before it can be used in a Job.  The AD is first created (or amended) in Assembly Library, then the associated Kit List is created or amended in BoM Editor.

The BoM Editor is available in the Assembly Library.  Simply select the assembly you want to work with and click the EDIT BoM button.  However, if you want to go directly to a BoM without looking at the Assembly Definition, just click the BoM EDITOR button.

Assemblies can be costed (based on subassembly and materials costs, plus production process costs), including recalculating  the costing of all the component subassemblies to an infinite number of levels, from the bottom up to the top, using Assembly Costing.  Simple on-screen directions are provided.

BoM Cleanup removes all zero quantity items from the BoM.

Import BoM will enable you to quickly import into Merlin an Assembly Definition and Bill of Materials from your CAD package or an Excel® spreadsheet.
