Select Assembly to Cost

When you launch Assembly Costing you will see the following screen:

Keep an eye on the Next Step message near the top left of the screen.  This will prompt you through the four stages of costing an assembly from the bottom up, through an infinite number of subassemblies.

To start, in the drop-down combo box enter (or select) the top level assembly number that you want to cost.  When you are happy you have entered the right assembly number, click the DO IT button.

You will be asked if you wish to use SUPPLIER ONE for the costing.  This is useful if your preferred supplier for each stock item is entered on the Resource Record Cards as Supplier1.  If you say YES to this option, the costing for this assembly and all its subassemblies will be based on the Supplier 1 cost for the materials used in the assembly, regardless of which is your currently selected supplier for each material item.  So you can base your costing on your preferred supplier prices if you wish.

A panel to the right of the screen will activate to warn you that SUPPLIER ONE COSTING is activated.

If you say NO to SUPPLIER ONE costing, then the costing will be based on the supplier currently selected for each item on the Resource Record Cards.

The screen will present a complete list of subassemblies contained in the entire assembly structure, as shown below:

View Subassemblies

The parent of each subassembly is shown in the left-hand column, starting with the top level (Level1).  The first layer of subassemblies is Level 2.  The Level column shows how many levels down the subassembly appears in the structure, and this can be followed in the Parent/Child columns.

If a subassembly appears more than once in the structure, it will be listed only once, and the number of instances of this assembly in the overall structure of the Top Level BoM will be shown in the Inst. column.  Only the highest level instance will be shown in detail.

Should it be that there are no subassemblies in the Top Level assembly, or if you wish to view the Top Level BoM listing, please click the Top Level tab before proceeding further, otherwise click the OK button.  You will be asked if you want to cost all of the subassemblies in the Top Level assembly structure, and you can skip this process if you wish.

However, to ensure that all subassembly costings are up to date before the higher and top levels are costed, click YES to accept this option.

Update Subassembly Costs

If you chose to cost the subassemblies, you will be taken through them one by one, with the Proposed New Costing box as shown above.  The old (present) costing is shown along with the newly calculated costing, and you have the option to update OR skip the costing for each assembly.

A mark-up percentage will be applied to the net costing, and/or the result will be rounded up to the next whole currency unit (i.e. £, $, etc.), only if these options have been set in ADMIN / SET PARAMETERS.  The default for these is zero% mark-up and no rounding.

The Proposed New Costing box will appear as many times as there are subassemblies in the BoM structure.

Update Top Assembly Cost

When you have finished with the subassemblies, the screen will appear as above.

When you are ready, click NEXT and you will be asked if you want to cost the top level assembly.  If you click YES the Proposed New Costing box will appear one more time, for the top level assembly itself.  Click Update or Skip as you wish.  The NEXT button will become the DONE button.

Once you have reached the top level and updated the top-level assembly cost the New Costing figure will be updated to reflect updated subassembly costs (which will have been based upon Supplier 1 costs, if this option was selected).  If you have selected SUPPLIER ONE COSTING, a field will appear to the right showing the costing for the top-level assembly based upon the Supplier 1 price for each material component, so you can immediately see the difference, if any.

Click the Print Costing button if you want a hard copy of the costing, otherwise click DONE and you will return to screen 1, where you can enter another assembly number or exit to the Control Centre.
